De Haan, from dunes to villa district

This walk is available in Dutch only.

With a guide, you will explore the ‘Concession’, the popular name for the villa district that began to take shape in 1889 amidst the dunes of Klemskerke and Vlissegem.

You’ll discover how the tram line laid the foundations for De Haan’s development as a seaside resort and how this picturesque villa district acquired its unique character.

No high-rise buildings here, but charming villas and winding lanes that transport you back to the Belle Époque, when strict guidelines for roads, construction and nature gave the resort its timeless appeal.
